The board is requesting your urgent attention on a matter at the club.  A recent investigation into some septic issues has shown that our system is in need of replacement.  Expediting the work this fall will ensure we have an operational system for the winter and eliminate any increase in costs next spring.

See your email from "roelfsen@gmail.com via Survey Monkey" this morning for the whole story!

No Bad News (2021-22, Volume I)

By Sam Hogg

Happy fall everybody!  It takes one cold evening to get me thinking about skiing.  It really is a state of mind more than a sport.  Here at Caberfae late fall is accompanied by frequent trips to the club to check on equipment, watching seasonal neighbors get firewood deliveries, and patiently waiting for that first night when Tim and crew turn our quiet village into a humming snowglobe.

The summer saw some great improvements to our winter playground.  We monitor them daily on walks with Brooks to the point Caberfae's staff now call him the building inspector.  More snowmaking, runs, and a renovated Skyview await all patrons.  Hints of a new chairlift are looking more like plans.  At the club specifically, the board and volunteer crew have undertaken Phase 2.0 of a more permanent COVID Corral that someday might be called a “lower deck”.  I’ve been told proper permits and fencing have been secured so one can enjoy an adult beverage in the company of his or her children, something that has long been lacking at our facility (and perfect timing for yours truly).  It also keeps with the theme of more seating and social space as we enter a new era where spreading out and utilizing outdoor assets seem to be a reality we aren’t going to shake.

As for the other winter playground, we have a major milestone to celebrate.  For the first time in my recollection, the entire Mackenzie trail has been cleared (yes, the outer loops too).  This gives us an actual baseline to do improvements instead of just fighting to keep up.  Many thanks to the club for offering work bee credit to our trail scouts and the “cut crew” of Jeff Demek, Jeff Tayler, Steve Roelfsema, and Caberfae for chipping in with some staff on more difficult clearings.  Our focus will turn to grooming once the snow flies.  If you’d like to be kept in the loop on Mackenzie-specific efforts, please feel free to email me at hogg.sam@gmail.com.  We have a good start to this list from last year’s survey but as our efforts become more formal, the more the merrier.

That’s it for me until Caberfae opens.  Don’t forget to get your old gear to the ski swap on November 12th (note location change to Mackinaw Trail Middle School) and do forget to come pick up your consignment dollars on November 13th.  All sales commissions and consignment dollars not retrieved by 1:00 PM benefit your local ski programs.  As you contemplate your other ski plans this year, take some advice from the late, great Warren Miller:

If you don’t do it this year, you will be one year older when you do.

AND A BIG SKI CLUB THANK YOU GOES OUT TO THIS YEAR'S CADILLAC HIGH SCHOOL SKI TEAM WHO RAKED AROUND  THE CLUB THIS PAST SATURDAY!
