Kitchen Open This Friday

If you pay attention to your ski club calendar, you know that we had not originally scheduled kitchen hours on Fridays in March. But attendance has been so good that we’re going to give it a try. The kitchen will open this Friday from 11:00 to 1:00. Watch this newsletter to find out whether we continue with this change.

Mexican Potluck Planned for Saturday

Bring your favorite south of the border dish to share and come enjoy a fiesta on Saturday during happy hour. Keenan Cooper will be playing music. It should be a great time. (We are still looking for a bartender for the night. If you can help, please contact Katie at secretary-treasurer@caberfaeskiclub.org)

Last Chance to Order Logo Wear

The online logo wear store closes tonight at midnight. Log on to https://armadillo.printavo.com/merch/caberfae-ski-club and order yourself some gear with our club logo. Merchandise will be shipped directly to your home within 2-3 weeks.

Spring Race Season Ahead

Caberfae’s spring race schedule starts March 11 with the Jim Wickham Memorial Race. March 12 is the Earl Huckle Memorial Race. And Sunday, March 19 is the Caberfae Peaks Gold Cup. See the Caberfae Peaks website for details. https://caberfaepeaks.com/themountain/racing/

Spring Carnival at the Club

On Saturday, March 18th Caberfae holds their Spring Carnival. After enjoying the Costume Parade and Big Air Contest, be sure to come back to the club for live music from 5:00 - 8:00.

Bartenders This Weekend

Julie Chesney and Stacey Dimmer will serve drinks on Friday. As mentioned above, we still need some help for Saturday.

Waddy’s No Bad News Report

Feb. 27, 2023

Good evening one and all. I've been meaning to pick up quill and inkwell all winter to prepare an entry for our newsletter. However, I've lacked inspiration. I still do, but for me mid life crisis takes form in confronting responsibility.

My name is Waddy, born Edward, Potthoff. I live just down the road from the ski area and Ski Club. I'm fortunate to have had affiliation with the former since the early 1960s, and the latter since late 1970s. Through hazes of various forms, I've seen changes. Evolution. I can honestly say "I'm older than the hills", having watched both South and North Peaks being built. I've witnessed the Meyer family shape the previously leased ski area into a proper ski resort. I'm lucky to have known some of the 'founders' of both the ski area and our Ski Club. I have a bit of a sense of their dreams, their efforts, and their frustrations. But all-in-all, we who ski Caberfae, and enjoy the benefits of Caberfae Ski Club, are the fruit of their labors. Some had vision far beyond others, some provided energy and work ethics far beyond others. It has been a nice blend. Some regretted change, some realized it's consistency. Throughout all of it, there has been a general sense of 'Family'. As the resort has grown, so has our ski club. We are now a few generations beyond our founders. The young always seek different rewards in a different future. 2023 finds us in a faster paced, technological world, with instant communication and gratification. To recognize our responsibilities (there's that word again...), and accept change, guarantees growth. As the Ski Club 'matures', the need to nurture it also increases. I spent years bartending both Friday and Saturday nights, selfishly. A vehicle for me to meet more members more quickly. That worked! Then I succumbed to Pat Goggin's newsletter, and wrote weekly updates on how I saw ski conditions here, and offered my opinions on the state of the universe. Pat kindly did not edit me!

As our Ski Club evolves, I would encourage all of you to consider what you can do to nurture our Ski Club family, as you would your own family. It's incredibly rewarding!

Be good to your Selves, and Kind to others.

Waddy
