Let's Keep Jack Frost from nipping at your nose. Because, as we all know, Jack is notorious for being a COVID Spreader.  To protect yourself and others, a reminder to please mask-up when you're in and around the Clubhouse.

No Bad News (2021-22, Volume II) Sam Hogg

It is a beautiful “Sun"day here at Caberfae.  I made six runs right at opening, saw lots of fellow club members and grabbed a breakfast burrito on the deck before trading off with Lauren so she could lap with the ski team this afternoon.  Brooks is snoozing away after some outside run-ins with little friends and candid discussions in an alien language with Kooma the club security dog. I'm not far behind him in the nap department.

It feels like February rhythms even though the season just got started.  I think that's because last season, much like college football, was just a practice one to fill time.  Past and COVID-era routines are starting to blur in a way that feel both novel and normal if that’s possible.  All the new ideas forced by adaptation are exciting and yet I’m beyond ready to use my locker and the bathrooms again.  I hear we can even flush now too, thanks Paul Waug!

I'm not worried about the weather warmups this week in the slightest.  Wet, compacted snow in the early season is both underrated as a surface (ask anyone who toughs out skiing in the rain) but also an investment in the March (or even April) glacier when I’ll take any turns I can get.  Tim and his crew have the snowmaking so dialed that I don't need a thermometer to know if it is 28 degrees, I can hear it.

Finally, I'd like to recognize a certain Roelfsema.  Many of you are obviously thinking Norma for her tireless work as club secretary.  Little did you know that her husband has actually been held back by full-time employment all these years.  Steve has embraced retirement and been de-facto caretaker of the MacKenzie Trail all fall and early winter.  The Dutchman wielding a Farm Boss is reaching Paul Bunyan status out there.  The only thanks he'll accept is bar oil, and not the kind that goes in his chainsaw.  The trails are clear, they just need some white stuff.

Enjoy the holiday season, your club, and each other.  I'll steal a parting quote from one of Brooks' favorite books called Let's Be Happy by PK Hallinan:

'Cause time after time

I've happened to find

That just being happy

Begins in my mind.
