Watch Your Email Inbox for Your Dues Invoice

Invoices for club dues and fees will be delivered by email this year. They should arrive between now and the end of the month. If you have not received an invoice by the first week of September, please contact Katie at secretary-treasurer@caberfaeskiclub.org.

You will notice that dues and some fees have increased slightly. The Board hopes you understand that with the rising cost of goods and services, the club needs additional income to balance our books. We feel that our club is still an excellent value and hope that this coming season will be one in which we are all able to enjoy everything it has to offer.

Welcome Katie!

The Board is happy to announce that we have hired Katie Sturgeon to serve as the club’s new secretary/treasurer. Katie is a Cadillac native and a long-time Caberfae skier and ski club member. Until recently, she and her husband were living in Lansing where Katie was office manager of a large dental practice. They have recently relocated to Cadillac. Katie comes with many skills and much enthusiasm. We are happy to have her as part of the team.

Katie replaces Norma Roelfsema who resigned this spring after many years of wonderful service. We thank Norma for her excellent work. Club members, please be patient as Katie gets up to speed with the requirements of the job.

Kitchen Project Update

The club kitchen is getting a new ceiling. At the spring work bee, the old, crumbling ceiling was removed and new electrical wiring was run. Several weeks later, insulation was sprayed, and it is now ready for drywall and a ceiling that meets code for a commercial kitchen. A stainless steel pot rack and recessed lighting will also be installed. Before everything is moved back in, a fresh coat of paint will go on the walls. This kitchen improvement was made possible by a generous donation to our Capital Improvement Fund and by much volunteer labor from club members.

Do You Have Favorite Memories of the Ski Club?

Stephanie Williams would like to collect your stories. Here is her idea:

Caberfae is a home for so many of us each winter. It’s not just a place though, but a community that provides a sense of comfort as we return to see old friends, picking up right where we left off the previous March. So many multi-generational families have invested their winters, raised their babies, and grown old with good friends at Caberfae.

My husband and I met at the ski club, where we also got engaged and return each winter to teach our babies to ski and spend time with our grandparents and families. Our story is not unique within this community, and we’ve wanted to write a book of these shared stories for a long while, though it has always shifted further and further down the to-do list. However, with the passing of several treasured ski club friends the last few years, we don’t want to delay any further, as we hope to ensure these stories are captured and shared.

Help us preserve these memories for generations to come by submitting yours to stephanieaelenbaas@gmail.com. We have two very young children, so this book will not be published next year, or probably even the next few years after that. Please send the stories as you have them. We’ll save them all appropriately, and when the time is right, create a book to share with the membership.

We’re looking for your stories that answer questions like these:

How did you come to Caberfae and how has it impacted your life?

What has this community meant to you? What CSC relationships are most special to you?

What are your fondest Caberfae memories?

Share your funniest Caberfae story.

Share your family ski club traditions.

Submit your stories in whatever way is best for you—bullets and streams of thought are fine. They do not need to be complete thoughts or constructed stories, but do include your name and phone number.
