3.  No Bad News (2021-22, Volume III). By Sam Hoag

We made it through the holidays.  Caberfae is fully open.  The Viking skiers reported to their first ski meet yesterday.  The XC trails are covered and groomed. Race league starts Wednesday.  Things are feeling a bit like normal.  Time to breathe.  Just don’t breathe on your neighbor.  All kidding aside, thanks to everyone who is masking up and maintaining space in the club.  Regardless of your opinions on the matter, as a father to a toddler who doesn’t get an opinion I appreciate it personally.  We will get through this Omicron blip because we know what to do and care about each other.  More normal days are ahead.

It was great to see old faces and new over the holidays which tend to bring the club’s best turnout.  Much like the electric power industry that I’m involved in, the club does much of its planning around these “high capacity” days.  Heed warnings from the board and staff about policies like guest fees and parking if you want to enjoy the ability to have them in the future.  Cooperation is what makes this place tick and is on full display Christmas>NYE and the two holiday weekends.

On that topic, I’d encourage all to seek out new faces at the club.  With minimal deliberate events held last year and some on shaky ground this year, newer members are still getting warmed up to the facility and people at a time when there are more rules than ever.  Help someone out who looks lost, update your picture on the board, and make a connection whenever possible.  You never know who could be your future ski buddy… or spouse.

I always try to leave you with a relevant parting quote and with the focus on socialization, cooperation, etc. I landed on one of my favorite nonsense comedians, Jack Handey, of Saturday Night Live fame:

"Here's a good thing to do if you go to a party and you don't know anybody: First, take out the garbage. Then go around and collect any extra garbage that people might have, like a crumpled-up napkin, and take that out too. Pretty soon people will want to meet the busy garbage guy."
