Celebrating nearly 80 Years of Skiing and Lifelong Friendships

November 21, 2017      Vol. XI, #3

AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT:  Rumor has it Caberfae Peaks will open this Friday, November 24, 2017, pending enough snow to lay down some serious tracks.  The Caberfae snow crew promises to shake up their snow globe as long as Mother Nature gives them the temperatures to do so.  You may wish to keep an eye on the resort’s Snow Report http://caberfaepeaks.com/the-mountain/snow-report/ with the same anticipation you showed the NORAD Santa-Tracker on Christmas Eve when you were a kid.  Oh, come on … you did too.

2.  DON’T BOTHER TAKING OFF YOUR SHOES … we won’t tell your mom.  But the new carpet throughout the ground floor of the clubhouse may leave you feeling that you should.  Right after the fall work bee, new board member Tac Lee got busy and supervised the removal and installation of new carpet tiles throughout the ground level of the clubhouse.  The installer told Lee, “What you need to finish the job is a big party.”  Well, OK then … we better get planning.

3.  WANTED: STEALTH GEEK (stelTH gēk), n. a person who has many of the internal qualities of a geek, however does not look or act like a geek; a geek who has developed social skills.  I might add, experience in the field of bulk email distribution.  We are struggling to get this newsletter to the inbox of every member.  Many copies are ending up in Junk Mail folders, or Spam folders, or Promo folders ... how offensive is that?  If you are aware of a member with this type of experience, and may be interested to help, please send them my way so this newsletter may schuss straight to each inbox.  Thank you, Pat Goggin, editor, caberfae.ski.club.enewsletter@gmail.com

4. A SECOND RUN THROUGH THE GATES

a.  CALLING ALL BARTENDERS  Yeah, we won’t start the season with any rave reviews about the new carpeting throughout the ground floor of the clubhouse.  Naw, we’re not going to talk about the early snow fall or the new snow making capabilities out on the slopes.  Nope!  We’re jumping right to your personal invitation to see who wants to be first on the list to dish out drinks up in the Stag’s Head lounge this year!  If you are interested, please e-mail board member Shane Demek at shanedemek@yahoo.com and let him know what days (Christmas week and Saturdays) you would like to serve up the Bud Light’s to Marty, the Miller High-Life and Dos Equis to Waddy, and everyone else’s less predictable orders!  When you write, please leave a reliable email address and phone number in your email.  That’s so we can give you a polite reminder before your night of fame (just in case something comes up and we need to find a replacement).

Currently Available Dates:

December: 26th, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, New Year’s Eve.

January: 1st, 6th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 27th

February: 3rd, 10th, 17th, 18th (President’s Day weekend), 24th

March: 3rd, 10th, 17th

Please email Shane Demek shanedemek@yahoo.com. a couple of different nights you would be available, just in case multiple people want to bartend on the same evening.

Things to Note:

Saturdays prior to Christmas week are available as long as the resort is open, so let Shane know if one of those weekends works best for you.

Friday nights are available as long as there is enough interest and a board member will be around to help close.

There will be a small refresher required prior to bartending from a board member the day of, just to re-hash things like prices, how to use the cash register, and closing procedures.

Also, we are asking everyone to make the commitment on the night you are bartending to stay until at the very least 9p.m., so all those closing down the slopes can still enjoy a nice après ski beverage.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Shane at shanedemek@yahoo.com.

A sign-up sheet will be posted upstairs, near the bar, after we have filled some of the slots.

b.  THE SKI CLUB RUNS ON AN ENGINE POWERED BY volunteers.  So, if you’re kind of a control freak and want things done your way, come on out, volunteer, take charge.  Besides, this way you’re first in line for dinner and you get all the leftover desserts.  Does it get any better than that?  There are a lot of fun events being planned for the upcoming season.  If you would like to help put the lime in the lime light, please contact Robin Potthoff robinpotthoff@gamil.com and, from the depths of the jungles of Africa, she will hook you up.

c.  FREE LOCKERS AND PARKING PASSES … Blahahahah!  Just kidding … I just wanted to get your attention.  But if you’d like one of these treasurers please drop a line to Norma Roelfsema, club secretary/treasurer, and let her know your intentions.  Now, let’s don’t be silly, you need to watch the obituaries to learn if a parking spot up-top becomes available.  However, if you’d settle for a MacKenzie Parking Pass you might get one of those before Hell freezes over … which just might happen this winter.  The same is true about a locker (although checking the obits isn’t necessary here).  If you’d like to be on the locker list, again, send Norma a note roelfsen@gmail.com.
