4. COLD LOCKER ROOM TO FINALLY GET HEAT! (Gosh, I love this job)… Now don’t get excited. I’m talking about what
appears to be the NEW Cold Locker Room; it’s actually the old Warm Locker Room… the one with the cubbies. However,
it’s been so cold in there since Christmas, it’s been labeled the New Cold Locker Room. Apparently, the flux
capacitor in the thermodyne has been on the fritz since Christmas Week, and instead of making heat, it was making
ice. Well, worry no more… the heat’s back on! Please give a big Thank You to Don Pikula and his son-in-law Bill
Norris who spent several hours, over a couple of different weekends, fussing to get the system making heat once
again.
5. WADDY’S NO BAD NEWS REPORT - Tuesday, January 2nd, 2012
Yes, we did get/we are getting snow! Robin and I spent the day on top of South Peak today starting the high school
races. We left the house this morning at about 9:30 and it was 30 degrees and there were little wet drops falling
out of the sky. By the time we got our lift tickets, booted-up, and got on the North Peak chair, it had changed to
snow granules. By the time we got to the top of South Peak, it was snowing and blowing. It continued to snow and
blow all day long. The wind blew right up the hill and into the opening in our Easy-Up shelter where the kids go
through the start wand. I used a wind indicator app on my phone and registered an honest 340 mph gust in the
morning! In the afternoon the wind picked-up and I saw 743 mph! Amazing... One of the JV girls did a kick-start at
the wrong time and was lifted up and over the back side of South Peak! We weren't sure if she ever came down. Not
sure how they scored her... It was windy. Good news is that wit
h that wind we've got new snow. When I got home from the blizzard on South Peak, I shoveled. Down here at my house
I guess there to be 5-6" of new snow. Up on the Peaks there's usually 2-3" more accumulation. I checked a couple of
weather sites and it looks like we've got a high potential for more snow through the weekend. Perhaps winter has
arrived.
Sorry, I had to take a break and start a fire. I was a bit chilled, and realized Robin and I both still had traces
of spindrift coming off our shoulders and heads. Better now. A glass of red wine to complete my recovery.
We skied our figure-8 loop yesterday on the x-country trails, and agreed we needed more snow. It was warm and soft,
and too much 'brown'. New snow means revitalized trails. I saw tracks leaving from our 'trail-head' this afternoon,
and shall follow those tracks to the trails in the morning. Then shall go out and see if groomers have left any
powder on the Peaks. In the evening, I'll attempt to make a better showing on our Wed. Night Race League courses.
On Thursday I intend to start looking for a 40 hr/wk job so I can get some rest. I'm afraid the only work I'm going
to find is right here! I'll work for food.
That's it from me. Those of you in the Cadillac area, come on out, the snow's great! For those of you whose
priorities include work, come up as soon as you can. Let nothing deter you.
See you on the weekend if I'm still able to stand.
Waddy
PS. A quote from The Buddha: "When you realize how perfect everything is, you will tilt your head back and laugh at
the sky."
6. LOST & FOUND - If you saw poor Sylvia Reiser wondering aimlessly about the clubhouse on Sunday afternoon, it
was because it appeared that some misguided soul inadvertently took home her boot bag from the cubbies in the Warm
Locker Room. It disappeared around noon on Sunday when she suspects an eager child was sent to retrieve mom’s bag
from the cubby and mistakenly picked up the wrong one. Poor girl… had to wear her ski boots home. But don’t worry,
Dave offered to buy her a new pair of those fancy hairy boots. We’ll keep you posted to see if this, “losing my
bag” trick really works.
Now, this is where you might expect Sylvia to sit back with a glass of wine and wait for the phone call from the
embarrassed member who realized their mistaken identification and call Sylvia with good news. Well, not quit so.
Husband Dave, armed with his iPhone and sporting more apps than a 13 year old, started searching for Sylvia’s phone
with some spy app on his phone. Little blips soon indicate her phone was stationary at a location a few miles from
the club. As Dave played out his role as Bond… James Bond, constantly checked his little spy phone, he noticed the
blips began to move…. move, that is, in the direction of the clubhouse. He quickly called upon his trusty sidekick,
Your Man at Caberfae, Cris Dippel. He said, “Mr. Phelps, should you decide to take this assignment, please check
the clubhouse for Sylvia’s bag.” Upon inspection, the bag was discovered right back in the same cubby from hence it
came. While Sylvia did not get new hairy boots, sh
e would like to express her thanks to the Samarian who returned her bag. Dave would like to thank them as well,
since new boots are no longer in his future.
