CABERFAE SKI CLUB eNEWSLETTER, Vol. V, #1 October 23, 2011
INSIDE THIS ISSUE:
1. PRESIDENT’S LETTER
2. SKI SWAP NOVEMBER 19th
1. A LETTER TO THE MEMBERSHIP FROM PRESIDENT DEMEK
Dear Caberfae Ski Club Members,
If you’re like me the recent crisp air and cold nights are getting me cranked up for another great season of skiing
at Caberfae. We will soon be schussing down the peaks, sliding on our cross country skis and enjoying après ski
time at the Club. As we get ready to ramp up for another ski season there are some club activities I would like to
tell you about.
Thanks to the leadership of Paul Waug and many volunteers, we have completed two successful Work Bees during the
off-season and the Club is in excellent shape. The bike ride and barbeque was great fun over the July 4th holiday
and Ron and Lou Kimball did another outstanding job on the golf outing. Hope you were there to share in the summer
activities.
There are several projects in process this fall. Bob Cole and the construction team report good progress on the new
fireplace upstairs and it will be completed by ski season.
Another project that the board has spent considerable time on is additional parking. After many ideas and much
deliberation the Ski Club Board, working with the Meyers have come up with a very promising solution. The Club will
lease the last row of the parking lot behind the McKenzie Lodge. This will create 15 additional parking spots.
Secretary/Treasurer Marty Manley will work his way down the parking waiting list until all 15 slots are filled.
Please remember that we only have the last row and we cannot encroach on the employee area. Only those with the
parking permit for the McKenzie lot may park there. If we violate these rules, we will lose the privilege of using
that lot.
We have also worked hard on the new cubbies, brushing on multiple coats of urethane and installing a steel strip to
protect the toe edge. We ask that parents remind their children not to walk on the wood with ski boots, and please
remember that the cubbies are for day use only.
We’re excited again to be offering our New Year’s Eve Dinner Dance. Sue and her top notch staff will serve up the
usual great cuisine and Glen Stout will provide the musical entertainment. Look for the flyer for reservation
information and plan on attending.
Lastly on behalf of the Ski Club Board, Marty Manley (Secy/Treasuer) and Sue Egelus (Club Manager) we wish you all
a great fall and holiday season! See you soon,
Jeff Demek, President
2. CADILLAC SKI SWAP is this coming the Saturday before Thanksgiving, November 19th. So, run out to the club and
clean out your locker, check the garage, attic, basement… under the kid’s bed, and gather up your old equipment and
bring equipment and clothing to the Cadillac Junior High School Cafeteria on Chestnut St. Friday the 18th from 4:30
to 8 pm. This is where you unload… excuse me, “offer for sale” your
nearly-brand-new-what-was-I-thinking-equipment.
At exactly 9 am (and not a minute earlier) Saturday, November 19th you can join fellow downhill, cross country and
board enthusiast in finding the bargain of the decade in the JH Cafeteria. The sale runs until noon, but if you
wait that long, the pickings will be pretty slim.
If you brought in gear to sell, plan to return between noon and 12:30 to redeem your cut of the action. The
organizers subtract a 25% commission from all sales. These monies go to the Cadillac Area Ski Club to support ski
racing programs in the Cadillac area. A word to the wise, don’t be late. Joe Host has been know to consider the
proceeds belonging to late comers as donations. Oh, he’ll say “Thank you.” And there’s absolutely no truth to the
rumor that your profits will be paid in, “Sun n’ Snow Bucks.” However, Sun n’ Snow will be open on Saturday
afternoon, for your skiing convenience.
